“Let the redeemed of the LORD say so…” Psalms 107:2
Our mission is to encourage Christians to: "Stand Out, for Jesus".
Our method: passive encouragement and evangelism.
“But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.” 1 Peter 3:15.
Passive evangelism is what we call putting yourself out there for Christ and being ready to give an answer to anyone who asks you about Him.
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Mathew 5:16.
Passive encouragement is a way of letting your light shine so others may see it.
We call it passive because it’s something you do as a part of your life, not because you’re
looking for a conversation. When you wear what we call a loud Christian shirt in public, people are going to notice. Other Christians are going to see you and be encouraged. Non-believers are going to see you and possibly get curious, maybe even enough to ask you about it.
How many times have we heard preaching on being willing, or open, or ready to share the gospel? And how many opportunities have we actually had? Many Christians are willing, but how much good is it if nobody knows we're willing? Wearing one of our loud Christian shirts is like walking into your grocery store and using the intercom to announce: “I'm ready to talk about Jesus, everyone" in a polite non-obtrusive way.
Our goal is to encourage Christians that it doesn’t have to be about going out and doing something. It can be about making ourselves available, and hoping God will do something. The gospel has been preached in America; the race is not a sprint, it’s a long-distance run, and that requires patience. We believe a good way to run this race is to do what Scripture told us to do: let our lights shine and be ready to give an answer for it.
We let our lights shine by wearing loud Christian shirts that: "Stand Out, for Jesus". Is it the only way to let your light shine? Of course not, but it is an effective way. We add patience. We do not expect to share the gospel every time we go somewhere, we are just making ourselves available to be used by God when He wants to use us. And when we are not sharing the gospel, we know other Christians see our light, and that is encouraging, and may encourage them to shine their light too.
We know this requires a level of faith and spiritual maturity. Many Christians are not ready to share the gospel or give an answer for the hope that is in them, and that is ok. All you need is your church business card. Any Christian can answer any question about God with: “I would love to introduce you to someone who can answer that” and invite them to church. It is so much better to be honest than to think you must answer every question about God. The world lies to the world every day, but if you show sincere honesty, people will notice. The Spirit and Love draw people to Jesus, not convincing, or condemnation. And when you remove the fear of answering questions about God from yourself, you may just find the faith to shine a light for Jesus.
One consideration: if you cannot in good conscience invite a non-believer to your church and expect them to be treated with kindness, patience, and love, then you should consider the church you are going to.
“For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes.” Luke 6:44.
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23.
The Lord led us to start Nehemiah’s Seven and offer Christians a single tool that is good for both encouraging and evangelizing, and that can be used by any Christian: loud Christian shirts.
Passive evangelism is a wonderful possibility. At any given time, it is entirely under God’s will and an act of His Holy Spirit. Praise Him!
Passive encouragement is a choice we make. It is a choice that any Christian can make regardless of maturity, doctrine, or supposed ability. When we put on our clothes and go out into a world full of darkness, shining our light with the hope and knowledge of encouraging our brothers and sisters in the Kingdom, we
open a door for God’s Almighty Light to shine through us.
"But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin." 1 John 1:7.
So, let us cast off fears and insecurities, bickering and rivalries, apathy and laziness; and let us put on faith, hope, and love to encourage, to evangelize, to shine unified, and to: "Stand Out, for Jesus"!
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
